I was surprised this book doesn t have an English translation since it s the debut novel of Loe and most of his other works have been translated His trademark style is already there, it s easy to slip into the prose which surprisingly lacks details, giving the place only to the dynamics between the characters Our hero just like in Naive Super is an ageless and nameless guy who goes about in his life without much ambition One day a girl called Marianne steps into his life, verbatim One day she ju [...]

This was the first book that i ve read by Erlend Loe Intrigued by the cover, i took the book expecting this to be a hard, phylosophycal book about life and love But, no This book was a funny, and cynical piece of literature about a man who somehow happened to be in a serious relationship with a girl he is learning to love He finds that she controls every aspect of his life and him Even though she cheats on him, and leaves without a warning, he still takes her back Actually, like she won t leave [...]

The complexity of relationships as seen through the na ve and introvert eyes of Erlend Loe s characters Laconic storytelling, slightly absurd situations and thought processes are his trademarks At the best of times you get sucked in and the apparently simple text gives much than you could imagine In the less good passages you are prone to want to give his protagonists a good shake and shouting to, but that will pass, I promise.

not sure if i liked it or note writing style was pretty cool, marianne pissed me off and i wanted her gone forever or at least dead, the protagonist pissed me off with his apathy and phlegmatic view on life.but and that s the beauty of the book it s real, you know that there are relationships out there that are just like those two.

I ve read this story twice, for the first time when I was around 20 and now almost ten years later I remember disliking both of the characters so much I couldn t really get much out of it then But this time it felt different and the story was quite captivating in all its banal honesty. For me it was about carelessly floating in the ocean of adulthood, then slowly accepting the responsibility and growing up mentally So if you read it when you re very young it might be tricky to accept as a realist [...]

I ve read books by Erlend Loe before and I m not his biggest fan Although I in some way liked this book, I did not love it I began to dislike the main character, mainly because I ve already seen the movie The book is about an ordinary man, there is absolutely nothing special about him, except he tolerates than most people A women moves in to his apartment and they become a couple The story focuses on the time they have together and how she in so many ways controls him Even when he suspects and [...]
