I read this years ago one other book, but I think it was the last one It recently came up in a group I found I no longer had it, so I went to AbeBooks got the entire trilogy in paperback delivered for less than 10 Couldn t resist. It was great on a reread Condon s characters just pop with images of Jack Nicholson, Kathleen Turner, Robert Loggia, Anjelica Huston dancing through the story, it was perfect The characters are overblown, teetering between caricatures real people The situation is twisty [...]

I read this one before, bit it s worth while reading twice A great book by a great author This Condon s first and best book about the Prizzi s, a powerful mob of gangsters in Brooklyn, NY The main character and the mob s enforcer is Charley Partanna Charley attends a wedding and falls in love with a women who also attends Charley doesn t know she is a freelance shooter who has a contract in New York to hit and old gangster, normally Charley s responsibility.

If you love mafia this is one you The story is tight, fast moving, and in the end surprising There is great irony in the title If you look at what I have read in the last two years it is way over weighted with stuff written in the last 2 3 years It was fun reading a book where people smoked, used telephone books, carried guns on airplanes, and did not worry about DNA.

After The Godfather and before The Sopranos, there were the Prizzis, the extended first family of fictional organized crime Both Prizzi s Honor and Prizzi s Glory are wildly entertaining satires that I am always sad finish, and always wish there were one to read.Another case where the books are better than the movie, good as it was.

A total surprise I picked this up as a quick read and wasn t committed to reading it, but after test reading the first few pages, found it was engaging and witty The characterization is sure and also witty I gave it four stars for readability and enjoyment And, no, I haven t seen the movie It or less falls into a mystery category and of course, Mafia.

13th 2011Fratellanza comes before anything else in Charley Partanna s life Before family, before country, before God.When Charley must protect Prizzi s honor with killing his recently married wife, at the same time his wife hired to kill him.No kiss kiss bang bang a la Mr and Mrs Smith here.

It was an interesting book, if only trying to keep up with who s going to get whacked next. And maybe all those sports games my husband said were rigged really were Now if I can just get the mob to start backing the MN Vikings maybe they could actually win a super bowl

If you like your Mafia on the light side, this series is for you It has a good feel of authenticity, plenty of insider details, and just enough blood But fun.

This book started off great but the story became too confusing and difficult to follow The movie was better.

Read because I was a fan of Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner, this is a well written, if somewhat meandering tale, of Mafia life with a broad streak of black comedy running through it.

When my grandfather died, I inherited Prizzi s Honor as a book on tape I was 10 and in the years since have always wanted to go back and read this novel properly So I did It s great.

    14. Walt on said:

The misconceptions of the American Mafia are still visible in this popular book and movie However, the focus is on a lowly hoodlum building his career Prizzi himself is a believable character.

Truly hilarious I am a Condon fan from The Manchurian Candidate, in my teens, and so this one is a major pleasure.

Richard Condon knows suspense especially if it involves criminal activity Read this novel before viewing the movie.
