SCARY The character, Taren Evans, suffers from a terrible sleep disorder he wakes during his nightmares unable to move while the nightmare continues He goes to a sleep clinic for help and receives meds However, the meds are adjusted to ensure he is not hallucinating You, as the reader, are allowed a safe perspective of Taren s horrific journey where reality and nightmare merge.Although this is a short story, it is a SCARY story Based on a five star rating, I give it five stars 1 Buy from the aut [...]

Anywhere But Here novella than short story explores the intriguing and certainly ripe for horror exploitation concept of sleep paralysis Having experienced this myself a few times, the author does a fine job in describing the graying of the room s edges, the shadowy figures circling the bed, and worse the sufferer s inability to move or speak, yet remain fully present to experience any agony that might ensue from whatever motivates these nocturnal visitations. The story begins with a Poe esque f [...]

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.I don t normally read horror stories but having read the synopsis for Anywhere But Here I thought I d give it a go.Taren Evans is a 19 year old college student who suffers from narcolepsy and sleep paralysis The author spends a good deal of the book explaining how Taren feels during his sleep paralysis which I found fascinating but also chilling Taren suffers from night terrors whilst paralysed in sleep in which he dreams of a de [...]

Received a free copy from the author for an honest review I really enjoyed reading this The author did an awesome job when it came to descriptions, Taren s night terrors gave me nightmares Never having experienced sleep paralysis before I don t know if the descriptions were accurate, but they were terrifying A very original concept, I like finding novels that aren t the same idea reheated Looking forward to read from this author.

Overall, I quite liked this story Initially, it was a little slow going, and only the mention of the dark figure sparked a little fear in me I liked how descriptive and observant Taren was, it was easy to feel like I was in his shoes His life as a whole was pretty normal besides being riddled by night terrors The conversation about Batman could ve been done away with, but I guess it made it seem like something that would happen IRL The writing itself was perfect and easy to visualise. The ending [...]

I really wanted to like this, but in the end, I just didn t The plot was original and I really liked the characters, but I never really connected with them I liked that the beginning was a bit slow, it was a great way to build anticipation Unfortunately, it stayed slow until somewhere around the 75% mark Every few pages the writing would become stilted and was peppered with awkward phrasing I spent most of the book incredibly confused and waiting for something to happen When things finally did b [...]
