Still it is one of my all time favorites books after some years that passed and a few dozen other books read It is hard to say why I like this book so much Maybe Karl May s simple writing combined with the engaging story of wild West where the action doesn t allow you to breath or maybe the characters were the ones that gripped me, the indians with their unique, simple way of life or Old Shatterhand who always found a solution where the trouble came This book is definitely a masterpiece.

I loved the stories as a kid It often shows, though, that May did all his research in the library and never visited the places he wrote about until later Obviously, he didn t have the tools that we have in the Internet age Still, 3 stars for accuracy and his meandering sentences in the original Klingon, er, I mean German.
