Acqua Alta is Donna Leon at her best The reader almost shivers in the cold, flooded Venice that encompasses a plot to cover up archeological fraud by means of theft, abduction and murder Completely believable.Acqua Alta est une oeuvre majeure de Donna Leon On tremble presque, plong dans une Venise inond e et refroidie, sc ne d une intrigue menant des fraudes arch ologiques, vols, enl vements et attentats Le tout parfaitement cr dible.

Lots of content, lots of info about Venice and a good mystery to be solved, and high suspense at the end.

As a serious series reader, I stumbled upon Leon s Brunetti series shortly before a trip to Venice last year I have very much enjoyed the series I don t speed read a series, instead I generally have 3 or 4 series going, rotating between series each time I read a new book Leon s Brunetti series is so well written however, so entertaining and so engaging, that I find myself reading her books back to back Her knowledge of Venice, the geography and of the citizens of Italy itself is obvious I would [...]

When I visited Italy about 9 years ago, I was looking for a book to read on the trip back to the USA Had trouble finding one in English However, settled for what was a new author to me Good story line, good characters Brunetti is perfect He works with what he has although it is an uphill battle with the crooked administration Love the descriptions of Italy and I can visualize the cold wind and water and walking on the elevated sidewalks to get from place to place, hopefully with a cup of hot cof [...]

I m a big fan of Donna Leon and am presently reading her entire Guido Brunetti series This book is one of her best Having been in Venice during the season described this book evokes exactly the atmosphere and feel of Venice during the high tides And as usual Leon s main character is really Venice, Venitian culture and society and her insights are extraordinary Plus the ongoing characters at the Questura and Brunetti s family as a joy to follow Signorina Electra is a treassure.

Above average detective story greatly enhanced by colorful characters and a cold, wet venue As much as they adore the beauty of its architecture, most residents bemoan the cold and damp No cars, just flooding sidewalks and rain Dirty black water coming under the doors of homes and businesses Bartenders serving drinks while slogging around in boots because the whole cafe is flooded But they love their museums, churches, opera divas, food, language and somehow that gets them through and makes for [...]

Donna Leon s Brunetti series is addictive.I finish one and then try to move on to something else, but find myself wanting to get back into what is happening with Commisario Brunetti and his family I had started in the middle of the series, and have now gone back and started reading from book one So far, this book is my favorite The setting is Venice, early winter One of Brunietti s friends is violently attacked and injured, and he wants to discover why Almost like another substantial character i [...]
