Just finished this book Even if I enjoyed it very much for the overall story and the relationships involved, in my opinion, it was an easy ending Suspects are rarely culprits in E.Georges books and I was expecting a spectacular plot in the end So, a bit disappointed Nevertheless, a very good read.

I read this tour de force shortly after finishing Donna Leon s newest No comparison Leon s should have been a short story where as George has given us a story with innumerable twists and turns to keep the reader spurred on to find the culprit It covered many social ills alcoholism, drugs, illicit sex and sick relationships With Sgt Havers admirably holding her own while being put under the microscope by her superiors in hope of transferring her out of their patch and the dashing Lynley doing wha [...]

I give it four stars because overall the book was wonderful, as always. However, the synopsis promised appearances from characters we haven t seen for a while, like Simon and Deborah Cramming a mention of them in the final pages was dissatisfying and insulting My other issue was the bizarre and unfinished way the book ended Tommy s high handed behavior and Barbara s sheep like acceptance of it turned them into characters I didn t recognize and the abrupt ending made it seem as if the author paint [...]

Such a fan of Elizabeth George s books, and her DI Lynley and DS Havers characters It seems like a long time since the last But, here we are with a new crime, suicide vs murder, and Havers is off with her Guv DCS Ardery to settle the case However, as time moves on, not much changes, as well as new clues pop up.DS Havers for as long as she has worked with Lynley has learned a lot, but her social graces and her potty mouth are as irritating as ever She and DI Lynley finally get to work together, a [...]

Beginning a new Elizabeth George novel is like slipping into a darkened theatre to experience the emotions and drama of an excellent story You aren t just reading, you re in the pages You re allowed to once again become part of Scotland Yard the good and the bad I try to stay close to the investigation and clues as Sgt Havers and Inspector Lynley unearth so many twists and thinking and re thinking what is the heart of those caught up in the darkness of self preservation but I lag behind Elizabet [...]
